Success Stories About
Volunteers

Landscaping at Milford Lake
Story by Park Ranger Cynthia Dierks
Don and Diane Olgivie used to work at a Japanese Nursery in Washington
State before they became volunteers. With their expert knowledge in
landscaping and arborist work, they renovated an area in front of a
bathhouse at Milford Lake. Shrubs that were very old and overgrown were
removed and Don and Diane got to plan and install a new shrub bed. There’s
a gravel walkway against the bathhouse structure where visitors may check
out a new bulletin board as well. In the near future, several benches will
be installed nearby. Don and Diane are also pruning other trees and shrubs
in the park area, giving lots of “TLC” to an area that needed it.
