Volunteers at the Lake Cumberland Clean-up.Volunteers

Lake Cumberland offers many volunteer opportunities in recreation and natural resources management.  With over 100,000 acres of land and water to manage, volunteers are a vital part of our work force.  As a volunteer, you can gain valuable skills, meet new people, work outdoors, and in many cases see a new area of the county.  This gives many a proud sense of contributing to the conservation and management of our precious resources.

Volunteers at Lake Cumberland can…

  • Serve as campground host
  • Maintain trails and facilities
  • Remove trash and debris
  • Participate in wildlife management
  • Assist with special events
  • Assist with clean-up activities
  • Construct fish attractors

  • The Friends of Lake Cumberland, Inc.

The Friends of Lake Cumberland, Inc. (FOLC), formed in 1990, is a non-profit, non-partisan group of volunteers interested in assisting the Corps in maintaining the natural beauty of Lake Cumberland through the removal of trash and debris from the shoreline.  In addition to an annual cleanup, an Adopt-a-Shoreline Program was developed for ongoing clean up of the shoreline.  Thousands of bags of trash, tires and debris are removed each year by volunteers.  The Friends use these programs as a hands-on educational tool to promote environmental awareness and personal responsibility for actions that may impact the environment through participation.  For more information about the FOLC, call the Natural Resource Management Office at
