Shoreline
Management Plan
The draft of the 2010 update of the Cheatham Lake Shoreline Management Plan (SMP)
has been approved. The plan provides policies and guidelines for the effective
long-range management of the shoreline resources of the lake. The key objective
of the plan is to balance private shoreline uses with the preservation of the
natural environmental conditions of the lake.
If you were unable to attend the public meeting and would like to comment on the
draft plan please submit your comment(s) to: Resource Manager, Cheatham Lake,
1798 Cheatham Dam Road, Ashland City, TN 37015 before September 6, 2010. If you have
any questions feel free to contact the Resource Manager’s Office at (615)
254-3734.
The draft plan is posted below and copies are available to interested parties by
contacting the Resource Managers Office at (615) 254-3734. A public workshop is
scheduled for April 13, 2010 at 6:00 pm at Cheatham County Central High School
to discuss changes to the plan. This meeting is an opportunity for members of
public who are interested in the changes being suggested to voice their
opinions. Based on the input from the public meetings and additional comments
from the general public, the draft plan will be reevaluated before it is
finalized. Until the new plan is finalized, the 2005 Shoreline Management Plan
will remain in effect and can be viewed via the link below.
Cheatham Lake is a popular site for a variety of outdoor recreational
activities. Recreational demands and pressures associated with adjacent
development increase each year, yet the total amount of public land and water
remains fixed. The public continues to agree that sound management is necessary
to provide optimum use of lake resources for present and future generations.
